2024 Scholarship
The Maryland Grain Producers awarded of $17,000 through nine scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year. The named awardees can be found below, congratulations to everyone!
The 2025 scholarship is now live! The Maryland Grain Producers has increased funding to the next generation, funding up to $20,000 in scholarships for the 2025 to 2026 school year. The extra $5,000 will be awarded depending on the scholarship committees vote, therefore it could be given to any scholarship type! If you have any questions, please contact Jenell McHenry at jenell.mdag@gmail.com. Applications are due by January 15th and will be awarded in-person at the 2025 Maryland Commodity Classic. Eligibility and scholarship programs are below.
Maryland Grain Producers Honoree Scholarship
Representing farmers who were the backbone of the Maryland Grain Producers in 1991, the Maryland Grain Producers Association is awarding three scholarships up to $3,000 each. The requirements to be eligible are below.
- Applicant or immediate family member must be a member of the Maryland Grain Producers Association/National Corn Growers Association.
- Must be attending a secondary education school studying agriculture or working towards a degree to directly benefit the agriculture industry, one cannot be in a graduate program. A technical school is eligible.
- Recipients are only eligible to receive a Maryland Grain Producers Scholarship two times.
- Family members may not have requested MD grain checkoff refunds in the last 12 months.
- Must submit – personal and educational information, membership number, and complete two essay questions. One question is required, then you are able to choose one of two questions to complete.
Maryland Grain Membership Scholarship
To provide an additional benefit to Maryland Grain Producers members, we are offering two scholarships up to $2,000 each for children of our members attending a secondary education institute, with any major. The requirements to be eligible are below.
- Applicant or immediate family member must be a member of the Maryland Grain Producers Association/National Corn Growers Association.
- Must be attending a secondary education school (a two-year or four-year college or technical school), with any area of study. One cannot be in a graduate program.
- Recipients are only eligible to receive a Maryland Grain Producers Scholarship two times.
- Family members may not have requested MD grain checkoff refunds in the last 12 months.
- Must submit – personal and educational information, provide a reference, and complete the two essay questions.

Welcoming students who do not come from a grain production farm, for the second year the Maryland Grain Producers Association is offering two scholarships up to $1,000 each for non-members attending a secondary education school and studying agriculture. The requirements to be eligible are below.
- Must be attending a secondary education school (a two-year or four-year college or technical program) studying agriculture or working towards a degree that directly benefits the industry. One cannot be in a graduate program.
- Recipients are only eligible to receive a Maryland Grain Producers Scholarship two times.
- Must reside in Maryland but may attend any college.
- Must submit – personal and educational information, provide a reference, and complete two essay questions. One question is required, then you are able to choose one of two questions to complete.
Next Steps
The scholarship application will close on January 15th. Please email your application to jenell.mdag@gmail.com. Once all applications are received, personal information will be redacted and sent to the scholarship committee. They will utilize a rubric to score each application. Then the committee will present their report to the board at the February meeting with the top applications. The board will then vote with all personal information redacted. Names, colleges, addresses, etc. will not be shared until moved and approved. Following that meeting, every applicant will be sent a letter with the decision by March 1st.
Maryland Grain Honoree Scholarship
Representing farmers who were the backbone of the Maryland Grain Producers in 1991, the Maryland Grain Producers Association awarded three $3,000 scholarships. This scholarship is for farmer members with a student attending school, working towards a degree in agriculture. Congratulations to our three recipients listed below.
Reagan Riggs resides on her family’s farm in Church Hill, Maryland where she found a passion for the agriculture industry. Reagan is starting her second year at Virginia Tech this fall, pursuing a degree in Crop and Soil Science. Reagan is an active member of Virginia Tech’s Sigma Alpha Sorority, Horticulture and Agronomy Club. Following graduation Reagan plans to become an agronomist and obtain her CCA certificate.
Raised in Thurmont, Maryland, Caroline Clark is a 2024 graduate from Catoctin High School. Caroline has been active FFA and 4-H member for numerous years, competing in many competitions including Horticulture, Land Judging, Livestock Judging, and Skillathon. Caroline will be attending the University of Maryland this fall, pursuing a degree in Agriculture Economics.
Olivia Daniels was raised in Galena, Maryland on family’s farm, Daniels Family Farm, and will be starting her third year at Bridgewater College this fall. Olivia began her academic journey pursuing a degree in biology, but claims that one semester away from the family farm convinced her to change her major to environmental science with a minor in Leadership and Community Engagement.
Maryland Grain Membership Scholarship
To provide an additional benefit to Maryland Grain Producers members, we awarded two $2,000 scholarships for children of our farmer members attending a secondary education institute, with any major. Congratulations to our two 2024 recipients.
Alyson Shulze is attending Salisbury University, majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology. Alyson was raised on her family’s farm in Carroll County and believes that taking care of livestock from an early age gave her a passion for this career path. While at college, Alyson is an active member of the Clarke Honor College and Women in STEM Club.
Raised in Worton, Maryland working on her family’s grain and livestock farm, Kendall Langenfelder is attending the University of Delaware pursuing a degree in Sports Health, planning to become a Physical Therapist in the future. In high school, Kendall was on the varsity soccer and softball teams, a member of the National Honor Society, and President of the Kent County High School FFA Chapter. Kendall accredits her ability to connect with patients to public speaking skills she learned through 4-H and FFA.

Starting her second year at the University of Maryland this fall, Ashlynn Kidwell is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Animal Science and Sustainability. Ashlynn was raised in Carroll County where she is active in 4-H, FFA, Farm Bureau, Agriculture Future of America, and Sigma Alpha where she competes locally and nationally. Ashlynn serves in many roles including MD 4-H State Council President and on the MD State Jr. Fair Board.
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education, Emily Crossley of Sudlersville, Maryland will be starting her second year at West Virginia University this fall. Emily is currently a member of the Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority, WVU PAWS, and Student Support Services/TRIO. During her time as Queen Anne’s County High School, Emily was President of their FFA chapter and credits the agriculture education program for her career choice, with hopes to become an agriculture teacher after graduation.
Raised in Cordova, Maryland, on her family’s multigenerational farm, Macy Cook enjoyed being involved in her family’s retail asparagus business from an early age. After taking over the business her freshman year of high school, she realized she wanted to continue serving the agriculture industry through her future career. Macy Cook is attending the University of Mount Olive pursuing a degree in Agribusiness. At college, Macy is active in many clubs and organizations including the University of Mount Olive Young Farmers and Ranchers, Collegiate FFA, and Animal Science Club.
